PLATFORM SPECIFICITIES: THE PLATFORM BOOKS PANEL

Social media platforms shape our lives on micro, meso and macro levels. They have transformed everyday practices as individuals, or social small large groups, multiple, entangled impacts rituals of democracy cultural (re)production, organization labor industry. This panel brings together five papers, each by authors recently published forthcoming platform books. Together, the papers offer an analysis TikTok, WeChat, Tumblr, Instagram Facebook. Because book-length analyses preceding panel, we are able to distill what is distinct recognizable about these – call ‘platform specificities’ demonstrate how specificities shaping not only experiences users those platforms, but ecosystem more broadly. The contributes ongoing discussion regarding power, ways making sense media, painting in board strokes plausible future developments keep eye on. extended abstract holds a rationale abstracts for analyzed platform.
